Match of the Day 2 8/11/20: Watch Arsenal vs Aston Villa
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday evening as they welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium.
Although the Gunners have endured a mixed start to the campaign, three successive victories in all competitions have got the club back on track.
One of those wins came against Manchester United at Old Trafford, a result which has moved Mikel Arteta’s side into ninth position ahead of squaring off against the West Midlands outfit.

Watch Team News: Arsenal vs Aston Villa Match of the Day
- Following an impressive display at Old Trafford last weekend and having rotated heavily in midweek, Mikel Arteta is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that beat United.
- There are two players who will have hope to have played themselves into contention, with Nicolas Pepe and Joe Willock both on the scoresheet and Willian’s place in the XI perhaps most vulnerable.
- That would mean Mohamed Elneny will be the surprise partner to Thomas Partey once more, with Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka having to make do with a place on the bench.
- After back-to-back defeats one might expect Dean Smith to consider some changes but he is already very set on his favoured XI right now.
- Bertrand Traore was the only change to the lineup against Southampton but was injured in the first half and given the impact of Trezeguet in that game, the summer signing would likely have lost his place regardless of any injury concerns.
- This match represents a relatively swift return to the Emirates for Emi Martinez and there will no doubt be a focus on which of the two keepers looks more convincing come Sunday.

Match of the Day 2 8/11/20: Watch Manchester City Vs Liverpool
The standout Premier League fixture of gameweek eight sees Manchester City welcome champions Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium in a battle between the top two from the past two seasons.
Man City go into this showdown sitting 10th whereas Liverpool have reassumed their position at the top of the table, but only five points separate the two sides and Man City also boast a game in hand, so victory on Sunday would see them move within striking distance of their title rivals.
Injured Players to watch: Manchester City Vs Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown
Van Dijk is likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious ACL injury during the Merseyside derby against Everton last month. The Dutchman has now undergone successful surgery on the problem, but faces a long road to recovery.
Fabinho

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Leicester City)
With a hamstring injury already resulting in his omission from the latest Brazil squad, Fabinho is highly unlikely to return for this fixture. However, Klopp has suggested that a comeback could occur after the international break.
Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: November 21 (vs. Leicester)
Thiago has not made an appearance for the Merseyside giants since picking up a knee injury in the derby against Everton last month. Although the Spaniard has avoided surgery on the injury, he will not be considered for selection until after the international break.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Still to make an appearance since sustaining a knee injury during pre-season, Oxlade-Chamberlain will not come into contention for this match, instead focusing his attention on a return after the international break.

- Gabriel Jesus returned from injury off the bench in Manchester City’s win over Olympiacos in midweek.
- Sergio Aguero had an outside chance of making the squad on Sunday but now won’t be ready until after the break.
- With three goals in his last four appearances, it would be very harsh on Ferran Torres if he dropped out of the side completely on Sunday.
- Riyad Mahrez didn’t start either league game against Liverpool last season and could be the one to make way for Jesus to start in attack.
- Both Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte were rested in midweek and they will return to the starting XI here. Back from injury, Nathan Ake will compete with Joao Cancelo at left-back.
- Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan are in competition to start in midfield alongside Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne.
- Jurgen Klopp has a real selection dilemma on his hands heading to the Etihad after Diogo Jota scored a hat-trick against Atalanta with Roberto Firmino watching from the bench. Klopp has defended Firmino to the hills, however, and it would be a surprise to see him left out of the side on Sunday even if his form warrants it.
- With Thiago not yet fully fit, we could see Liverpool line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with both Firmino and Jota in the side.
- 19-year-old Rhys Williams has performed above expectations when called upon in defence but Joel Matip is expected to return to the starting XI at the Etihad now he has overcome injury.
